The Testing of Faith 1–7

Ayah 1

1. الٓمٓال࢜مّ࢜Alif Laam MeemQuranic initials · حُرُوف مُقَطَّعَة

Alif, Lām, Meem.

Ayah 2

1. أَحَسِبَاَحَسِبَDo thinkPerfect · Form I
2. ٱلنَّاسُالنَّاسُthe peopleNominative · مَرْفُوع
3. أَناَنْthatSubordinating Harf · حَرْف مَصْدَرِيّ
4. يُتۡرَكُوٓاْيُّتْرَكُوْٓاthey will be leftImperfect · Form I
5. أَناَنْbecauseSubordinating Harf · حَرْف مَصْدَرِيّ
6. يَقُولُوٓاْيَّقُوْلُوْٓاthey sayImperfect · Form I
7. ءَامَنَّااٰمَنَّاWe believePerfect · Form IV
8. وَهُمۡوَهُمْand theyPronoun · ضَمِير
9. لَاwill not be testedNegative Harf · حَرْف نَفْي
10. يُفۡتَنُونَيُفْتَنُوْنَwill not be testedImperfect · Form I

Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?

Ayah 3

1. وَلَقَدۡوَلَقَدْAnd indeedHarf of certainty · حَرْف تَحْقِيق
2. فَتَنَّاWe testedPerfect · Form I
3. ٱلَّذِينَالَّذِيْنَthose whoRelative pronoun · اِسْم مَوْصُول
4. مِنمِنْ(were) before themPreposition · حَرْف جَرّ
5. قَبۡلِهِمۡۖقَبْلِهِمْ(were) before themGenitive · مَجْرُور
6. فَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّفَلَيَعْلَمَنَّAnd Allah will surely make evidentImperfect · Form I
7. ٱللَّهُاللّٰهُAnd Allah will surely make evidentNominative · مَرْفُوع
8. ٱلَّذِينَالَّذِيْنَthose whoRelative pronoun · اِسْم مَوْصُول
9. صَدَقُواْصَدَقُوْا(are) truthfulPerfect · Form I
10. وَلَيَعۡلَمَنَّوَلَيَعْلَمَنَّand He will surely make evidentImperfect · Form I
11. ٱلۡكَٰذِبِينَالْكٰذِبِيْنَthe liarsAccusative · مَنْصُوب

But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allāh will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.

Ayah 4

1. أَمۡاَمْOrConjunction · حَرْف عَطْف
2. حَسِبَthinkPerfect · Form I
3. ٱلَّذِينَالَّذِيْنَthose whoRelative pronoun · اِسْم مَوْصُول
4. يَعۡمَلُونَيَعْمَلُوْنَdoImperfect · Form I
5. ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِالسَّيِّاٰتِevil deedsAccusative · مَنْصُوب
6. أَناَنْthatSubordinating Harf · حَرْف مَصْدَرِيّ
7. يَسۡبِقُونَاۚيَّسْبِقُوْنَاؕthey can outrun UsImperfect · Form I
8. سَآءَسَا࢜ءَEvil isPerfect · Form I
9. مَاwhatRelative pronoun · اِسْم مَوْصُول
10. يَحۡكُمُونَيَحْكُمُوْنَthey judgeImperfect · Form I

Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun [i.e., escape] Us? Evil is what they judge.

Ayah 5

1. مَنمَنْWhoeverRelative pronoun · اِسْم مَوْصُول
2. كَانَ[is]Perfect · Form I
3. يَرۡجُواْيَرْجُوْاhopesImperfect · Form I
4. لِقَآءَلِقَا࢜ءَ(for the) meetingAccusative · مَنْصُوب
5. ٱللَّهِاللّٰهِ(with) AllahGenitive · مَجْرُور
6. فَإِنَّفَاِنَّthen indeedAccusative Harf · حَرْف نَصْب
7. أَجَلَاَجَلَ(the) TermAccusative · مَنْصُوب
8. ٱللَّهِاللّٰهِ(of) AllahGenitive · مَجْرُور
9. لَأٓتٖۚلَاٰتٍؕ(is) surely comingNominative · مَرْفُوع
10. وَهُوَAnd HePronoun · ضَمِير
11. ٱلسَّمِيعُالسَّمِيْعُ(is) the All-HearerNominative · مَرْفُوع
12. ٱلۡعَلِيمُالْعَلِيْمُthe All-KnowerNominative · مَرْفُوع

Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allāh - indeed, the term [decreed by] Allāh is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

Ayah 6

1. وَمَنوَمَنْAnd whoeverRelative pronoun · اِسْم مَوْصُول
2. جَٰهَدَجَاهَدَstrivesPerfect · Form III
3. فَإِنَّمَافَاِنَّمَاthen onlyAccusative Harf · حَرْف نَصْب
4. يُجَٰهِدُيُجَاهِدُhe strivesImperfect · Form III
5. لِنَفۡسِهِۦٓۚلِنَفْسِهٖؕfor himselfGenitive · مَجْرُور
6. إِنَّاِنَّIndeedAccusative Harf · حَرْف نَصْب
7. ٱللَّهَاللّٰهَAllahAccusative · مَنْصُوب
8. لَغَنِيٌّ(is) Free from needNominative · مَرْفُوع
9. عَنِofPreposition · حَرْف جَرّ
10. ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَالْعٰلَمِيْنَthe worldsGenitive · مَجْرُور

And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allāh is Free from need of the worlds.
